Imaging of accessory soleus muscle: A case report with review of the literature

The accessory soleus muscle is an uncommon anatomical variant. It usually manifests as ankle pain and swelling or asymptomatic soft-tissue mass along the posterior medial aspect of ankle. In a few cases, it sometimes misdiagnosed mesenchymal lesion. idea this case report was to highlight existence mistaken tumor on fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC). A 32-year-old male patient presented orthopedics department with soft in distal one-third left leg malleolus. noticed about 5 years back. non-tender non-pulsatile. Before imaging, FNAC from done which raised suspicion He referred radiodiagnosis for imaging evaluation swelling. radiological diagnosis made; ruling out possibility tumor. This less common congenital anatomic variant rather than characteristic appearance location give definite diagnosis. Further, highlights rare variation pertaining its calcaneal insertion relation flexor retinaculum tarsal tunnel, should be kept mind by radiologists.
